A dark patch, a pale area, or a loose edge can make you wonder whether your rug needs cleaning. The answer depends on what changed and what the rug is made of. A photograph can help start the conversation, but it cannot always show whether the concern is soil, worn fiber, dye change, or damage.
Before choosing a treatment, give the rug a closer look and share its history. That helps the Aladdin team explain what can be evaluated, what care may be appropriate, and what result is realistic.
First, describe what you see
Soil or a recent spill: Tell the team when it happened, what was spilled, and whether you used water or a product on the area. Those details matter when a rug is inspected. Avoid scrubbing or adding another cleaner while you wait for guidance.
Wear or fading: If an area looks thin, flattened, or lighter than the rest of the rug, cleaning may remove soil but cannot replace missing fibers or restore color that is no longer there. An inspection can help set a useful expectation before work begins.
Damage or a weak edge: A tear, fraying fringe, or a separating edge deserves its own conversation. Cleaning and repair are different needs; ask what should be addressed first and what options are available for that particular rug.
Five questions worth asking before rug care
- What do you know about the rug? Share any label, purchase information, fiber content, age, or repair history you have. It is fine if you do not know.
- What changed, and when? Point out the exact area of concern and whether the change was sudden or gradual.
- What has already been tried? Mention spot cleaners, water, vacuuming, or previous professional care, even if it was years ago.
- Which areas seem fragile? Show the team worn sections, loose edges, fringe, or places where color appears to have moved.
- What outcome matters most to you? You may be trying to address a spill, understand an odor, preserve a family rug, or decide whether repair is worthwhile. Say so.
Let the rug guide the care plan
Aladdin’s specialty rug-cleaning process begins with evaluating the rug’s construction, fibers, dyes, and condition. The team can then discuss the appropriate next step. If you want to see how the work proceeds after that evaluation, read 7 Stages of Specialty Rug Care.
There is no useful one-size-fits-all promise for a one-of-a-kind rug. A clear description of the concern and a careful inspection are a better starting point.
Start a rug-care conversation
Use the residential service request form to tell Aladdin about your rug. Choose the rug service if it fits, or select “Not sure which service I need” and describe the concern in Special Requests. If you would rather talk it through, call 210-361-3930.
