The summer is upon us and that means outdoor entertaining is in full swing! Odds are you’ve had some time over the last year to redecorate or make a few upgrades to the inside of your home while in quarantine. While your outdoor space may have been adapted into a private relaxation spot or even an extension of your office, many of us are vaccinated and finally feeling ready to entertain. So, how ready are you to welcome guests over? Don’t worry! We’ve got a list of some of our favorite trends and tips for making your outdoor space this summer’s next dream oasis.
Natural Elements
Natural neutrals are in. Natural materials like bamboo, rattan and wicker can brighten your space and create visual contrast to other organic elements like flowers, grass and vegetable or herb gardens. Start with a sand or honey-colored patio furniture set and modern woven lanterns to add texture that will enhance your space. Interested in more sustainable materials? Opt for eco-friendly, recycled and ethically harvested pieces that are perfect whether your style is more modern or traditional. Pair your furniture with comfortable accent pillows and a stylish area rug to complete the look.
Set the Mood
The right lighting makes the transition from day to night easy so the party can keep right on going. A statement fixture is a great element for upgrading your space but keep in mind that lights set too bright can make your space feel clinical and disjointed from surroundings. Make sure you have areas of light and dark that help draw the eye around your space with uplighting and lower watt bulbs. Don’t forget about the installations though. To pull this trend off well, look for weather-resistant, outdoor-friendly options when you invest in and update fixtures and outlets.
Get Beyond the Backyard
We saw drive-by parties and socially distanced occasions throughout 2020, but now is the time to kick it up a notch. Often considered only important for curb appeal, we are here to tell you it’s time to explore the front yard! Creating an outdoor space at the front of your home not only maximizes the space you are living and entertaining in but can also help you remain connected to your community in ways we all established in quarantine. Adding comfortable seating, a tree swing, water feature or simple café table and chairs can help create a welcoming ambiance to invite your neighbors and friends to stop by.
Make It Year-Round Occasions
The summer may be for barbeques, pool parties and the like, but popular upgrades in products and furniture help you and your family enjoy staying outside longer. Adding additional elements such as fans, shades and misting systems can keep the sweltering Texas heat at bay. In a few months, we’ll be craving cooler temperatures so keep in mind that amenities like fire pits, heat lamps, outdoor rugs and throws can make those cooler evenings that much cozier.
Refresh What You Have
Before you set out to create the ultimate outdoor space, don’t forget to work with what you’ve got. We often pay little attention to the natural stone and hard surfaces outside. We recommend starting with a deep clean and some TLC to your stone floor, outdoor upholstery and kitchen or any other hard surface that may need some restoration and resealing. Whether you have Saltillo, concrete, brick or other natural stone, what better way to kick off a refresh than with reviving stone to look brand new. Need help? Who else is planning their next get-together? We know we are. We’re saying cheers to outdoor spaces no longer being just for special occasions and events but part of everyday living.
